It felt like a cloud descended on Atlanta.
A dense fog advisory was in effect for most of North Georgia until 11 a.m. Sunday, creating a potentially sticky situation for drivers on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Visibility was less than a quarter of a mile at times, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
The weekend weather should be cool and pleasant later in the day, with a high in the 50s, Monahan said.
By late in the day, there should be increasing clouds with a chance for scattered showers into early Monday.
Then, temperatures will take another drop, Monahan said, with highs in the upper 40s and low 50s through Wednesday.
Due to the holiday weekend and Atlanta United’s 5 p.m. game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, expect some traffic on Sunday.
Some flights out of Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport could face delays due to weather Sunday morning and the high volume of travelers. Officials recommended that fliers check with their airline on their flight status.
The Georgia Department of Transportation still has a holiday schedule in effect for express lanes in Cobb and Cherokee counties. After 11 a.m. Saturday, the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes went back to southbound, and at 11:30 p.m. Saturday they reversed to northbound. At 11 a.m. Sunday, they’ll change to southbound and stay that way through Monday morning, when they’ll resume normal operations.
Also, the I-75 South Metro Express Lanes were turned to northbound Friday morning and will remain northbound through 11 a.m. Monday. Normal operations will resume Monday.
