The rain has started.

And throughout the work week, cooler temperatures and wet conditions will continue to replace the hot and dry weather metro Atlanta has become accustomed to this summer, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Jonesboro, Lawrenceville, Lithonia and other parts of the metro area started to pick up spotty showers Monday.

“And as we go through the day, there will be pockets of very heavy downpours and, in other cases, just mostly cloudy skies,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said. “It is going to hold our temperatures down.”

Parts of the metro area could pick up those downpours between 4 and 9 p.m. It could cause problems on roads and flooding in counties north of metro Atlanta.

A flood watch remains in effect through noon Tuesday in Franklin, Hart, and Stephens counties. Flash flood warnings were issued for Habersham and Rabun counties until midnight.

Temperatures were 82 degrees in Atlanta, 78 in Blairsville and 77 in Griffin just at 8 p.m.

Atlanta will see a high of 89 degrees by 3 p.m., Channel 2 reported.

Highs are expected to stay in the mid- to upper 80s through Friday. There is a 60 percent chance of rain through Thursday and a 40 percent chance Friday.
