It may only have been 89 degrees about 1:30 p.m., but Sunday’s temperature already felt 96 degrees, Channel 2 Action News meteorologists said.

The 40 percent possibility of evening showers and thunderstorms may cool us off some, but it’s hot this last day of July and last day of summer vacation for many children returning to school Monday.

The rain chances decrease after Monday, too, so the first week of August is expected to stay hot and mainly dry.

Temperatures were 90 degrees in Atlanta, 84 degrees in Blairsville and 91 degrees in Griffin just before 2:30 p.m.
