Between flooding, a state of emergency and President Donald Trump's visit, it's been a rough week to travel around Atlanta.

However, this weekend will feature fewer roadblocks. Most of that is thanks to subdued weather.

North Georgia shouldn’t see a drop of rain this weekend, allowing the region a much-needed opportunity to dry out, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. The only downside is the dry air moving through Georgia is also quite cold.

Saturday got off to a chilly start, with temperatures as low as 33 degrees in Atlanta, Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said.

Fortunately, it’s expected to warm up to the high 50s, making it a great day to get outside, she said.

“We are expecting a lot of sunshine all afternoon, but it’s also going to be a bit breezy,” Deon said, adding a light jacket might be necessary until it warms up later this afternoon.

The dry weather means construction crews will be out in full force, so drivers are urged to give themselves plenty of time today.

From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. three left lanes of I-85 North will be blocked for roadwork near the Buford Spring Connector, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. A right lane of I-285 North will also be blocked from 7 a.m. until noon Saturday near I-20 in Fulton County.

Events near downtown Atlanta will also congest surface streets Saturday evening. Those events include Atlanta United's home opener against FC Cincinnati at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and comedian Martin Lawrence's visit to State Farm Arena. Both begin at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday will be a few degrees warmer, Nitz said. The dry spell will continue into Monday but will hit a brief snag Tuesday.

“(It’ll be) dry throughout the weekend and dry to start of the work week, but a few showers will move in Tuesday to end that dry pattern,” he said. “But it looks to be light to moderate showers, so not too bad.”
