At 9:54 p.m. tonight, the seasons officially change from summer to fall.

However, Mother Nature hasn’t gotten the memo yet, or at least not in Georgia.

“It fells like summer is getting hotter as we get closer to the end of it,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

The temperature in Atlanta is currently 91 degrees, which is a degree warmer than the predicted high and 11 above average, Monahan said.

College football also returns, and sports should dominate Saturday around metro Atlanta as the Braves, Atlanta United, Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State all have home games.

Luckily for fans, there’s only a slim 10 percent chance of rain, Monahan said.

Construction also returns across metro Atlanta, including two closed southbound lanes on Ga. 400 between Northridge and Abernathy roads, which are causing heavy delays, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

In Cobb County, three southbound lanes and four northbound lanes are closed for construction on I-75 between Canton and Delk roads, which is also causing heavy delays, the Traffic Center reported.

The Georgia Tech game against Clemson at 3:30 p.m. at Bobby Dodd Stadium should be during the heat’s peak, Monahan said. Kennesaw State hosts Clark Atlanta at 6 p.m.

The University of Georgia began its road game against Missouri at noon. The weather in Columbia, Mo., should reach a comfortable high of 76 degrees with no chance of rain, according to local weather reports.

Georgia State will travel to Western Michigan for a 2 p.m. kickoff. There’s no chance of rain in Kalamazoo, Mich., either, and the temperature should reach the mid-60s, according to local reports.

If you prefer soccer, Atlanta United will take on Real Salt Lake at 7 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Traffic will likely pick up around game time.

The season-ending Tour Championship continues Saturday at the East Lake Golf Course we well, which is located near downtown Atlanta in DeKalb County.

The Braves also could win the National League East if they beat the Philadelphia Phillies at SunTrust Park this afternoon. The game began at 1:05 p.m.

Speaking of Cobb County, the new toll lanes on I-75 and I-575 have been open nearly two weeks for those with Peach passes, but Saturday will be the first day the tolls go into effect.

A wetter weather pattern is expected to move into Georgia early next week, building to a 40 percent chance of rain Monday and Wednesday.
