Saturday got off to a chilly start, but the moderate overnight rain had moved on.
“No more heavy rain around Athens,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said Saturday morning.
However, there could be some drizzle as all eyes turn to Athens to watch the “Clean Old-Fashioned Hate” rivalry game for state pride.
Luckily for fans attending the game at Sanford Stadium, the rain should be light and spotty for the noon kickoff between UGA and Georgia Tech. It should only diminish through the game, Monahan said.

The clouds should stay through the afternoon, meaning that despite the action heating up on the field, the temperature outside will remain fairly cool.
The expected high in metro Atlanta is 57 degrees.
The second-biggest in-state rivalry game also takes place Saturday between Georgia Southern and Georgia State at 2 p.m. at Georgia State Stadium. The temperature and weather outside shouldn’t be noticeably different than Athens’ outdoors.

The Georgia Department of Transportation still has a holiday schedule in effect for express lanes in Cobb and Cherokee counties. Until 11 a.m. Saturday, the Northwest Corridor Express Lanes will be turned northbound. At that point, they’ll go back to southbound, and at 11:30 p.m. Saturday they’ll reverse to northbound. At 11 a.m. Sunday, they’ll change to southbound and stay that way through Monday morning, when they’ll resume normal operations.
Also, the I-75 South Metro Express Lanes were turned to northbound Friday morning and will remain northbound through 11 a.m. Monday. Normal operations will resume Monday.
Sunday should heat up into the mid-60s, starting the week on a warmer note — but that won’t last for long. Monahan said the highs will drop back into the low 50s on Monday and the upper 40s Tuesday.
