Saturday is expected to bring another 90-degree day to North Georgia, but the heat may drop a bit soon.
Weather will “stay hot through the weekend,” with Saturday’s high forecast at 91, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
The norm is mid-70s for this time of year and the slim 20 percent chance of rain won’t help cool things off much.
However, Sunday’s high of 89 may break the grip of 90-degree days, Channel 2 chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.
“The beginning of next week will have a wedge of high pressure set up, and that's going to cool us back considerable,” Burns said. “I shouldn’t say cool — it’ll be less hot.”
By “less hot,” he means it’ll still be in the 80s Sunday and Monday, still about 10 degrees above average.
So, what’s causing this “way out of line” weather, as Burns called it?
There’s an area of high pressure hovering over the Southeast, but Burns said it should move into the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday, providing space for cooler — or less hot — air to flow in.
The slim chance of rain Saturday is good news for those attending all the sporting events across North Georgia.
Presbyterian College takes on Kennesaw State at 2 p.m. at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, which means the game should take place during peak heat. Attendees should make sure water is available.
Soccer fans won’t have to worry about the heat, since the New England Revolution will play Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
Vanderbilt will play Georgia at 7:30 p.m. at Sanford Stadium in Athens, so the heat should quell slightly before kickoff.
As the temperature decreases the next few days, the chance of rain slowly increases to 30 percent Monday, Burns said.
