Showers have stayed clear of metro Atlanta lately. And that won’t change anytime soon.

“Our next chance of rain — and it’s a slim one — holds off until Sunday,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

The rain chance is at 20 percent for Sunday in metro Atlanta, and humidity is expected to remain low through the week.

Dry air brought on by Hurricane Hermine, which is still impacting the East Coast, is the only lasting effect of the hurricane for metro Atlanta, Nitz said.

Temperatures were 91 degrees in Atlanta, 86 degrees in Blairsville and 90 degrees in Griffin just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

They are expected to drop to the mid-to-upper-60s Wednesday morning and rebound to the low 90s Wednesday afternoon.

The metro area has reached or surpassed the 90-degree mark 76 times this this year, up from 49 days of 90-degree temperatures in 2015.

The annual average is 37 days. The record, set in 1980 and tied in 2011, is 90 days.
