There’s not much in the way of rain, but don’t rule out patchy light showers Wednesday night in metro Atlanta.
Rain crossed the Mississippi Valley early and is expected to produce spotty showers locally at about 11 p.m.
Those showers will continue into the midnight hour and through Thursday morning.
“As that moisture continues to ride up over the top of this cool air that’s wedged down the Appalachians, in our area we’re going to see that light rain and drizzle at times, and mostly cloudy times,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.
Another surge of moisture will hit metro Atlanta at about 5 p.m. Thursday.
“And so it looks like it’s going to be a wet evening on Thursday, with temperatures that will still be running below average,” Minton said.
Patches of rain and below average temperatures will continue through Friday, high pressure off the East Coast to blame for the cool temps and swift winds in full effect Wednesday.
Wind gusts from the east were moving through the area at 24 mph, and sustaining winds reached 17 mph.
Temperatures were 63 degrees in Atlanta, 63 degrees in Blairsville and 63 degrees in Griffin just before 3 p.m.
High pressure off the East Coast is to blame for both the wind and cool temperatures, Minton said.
Temperatures will top out at 66 degrees Wednesday before falling to 62 degrees Thursday and 57 degrees Friday. Then they’ll start trending upward to 67 degrees Saturday and 71 degrees Sunday.
