Freeze warning in effect as temps dip into 20s

If you think it’s cold now, wait until the morning.

Temperatures are expected to be in the 20s Wednesday morning, after a windy day, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Expect to wake up to  a low of 25 degrees with winds between 10 and 15 mph, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz. Temps could feel like they’re in the teens with wht wind chill.

With just six days until spring, scattered snow flurries are being reported in metro Atlanta. Earlier, parts of Rome, Canton and Kennesaw saw slight flurries, Channel 2 reported.

Snow dusted parts of North Georgia early Tuesday, and then the wind began to pick up, according to Channel 2. A wind advisory went into effect at 10 a.m. and expired at 8 p.m.

Metro Atlanta faced the threat of downed trees and wind gusts up to 30 mph. Higher elevations could get gusts up to 40 mph.

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles,” the National Weather Service said in the advisory. “Use extra caution.”

If the wind wasn’t enough, a freeze warning for temps in the 20s went into effect for much of North Georgia at 9 p.m., the Weather Service said.

It won’t be lifted until 11 a.m. Wednesday.

“Remember, protect the plants,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said. “Bring in the pets, and protect any exposed pipes.”

There is some good news, though.

A winter weather advisory for mountain counties was canceled.

Current temps are 35 degrees in Atlanta, 28 in Blairsville and 36 in Griffin. Expect highs to be in the 40s Wednesday. Temperatures could reach the 60s later in the week.
