Get ready for some rain overnight and the rest of the holiday week.

A flood watch for all of north and central Georgia is in effect through 7 p.m. Christmas Day, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. He is forecasting 3 to 5 inches of rain throughout the week.

“Only a few stray showers” were expected in metro Atlanta before 10 p.m. Tuesday, Nitz said.

After that, rain is expected to continue throughout Wednesday and Thursday, and “a few rumbles of thunder” are possible. There is an 80 percent chance of rain Wednesday and a 60 percent chance Thursday, with highs of 70 and 75 degrees, respectively.

The latter would be a record, as would the forecast Christmas Day high of 77 degrees. There is a 60 percent chance of rain on Christmas, Nitz said.
