If you’re heading outdoors Friday evening, leave the umbrella at home.
Weather conditions are dry and mild. The wind is calm, and skies will clear later tonight. Though, they’ll return Saturday, and the metro area will again be drenched with rain Sunday.
Temperatures will reach the mid- and upper 70s, running well above average Saturday.
“Then the storms arrive,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls said.
There is an 80 percent chance of showers expected to hit the metro area Sunday morning and afternoon.
Storms overnight have already left more than 20,000 residents without power and caused 55 Delta flights to be diverted from Atlanta to more than a dozen airports across the southeast.
Georgia Power said just before 12:30 p.m. only 37 active outages left 99 people without electricity Friday.
And the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport reported 18 flight delays Friday morning, according to Channel 2.
“The showers are well down to the south, the front not quite into our region just yet, but it’s going to sweep through,” meteorologist Karen Minton said.
Temperatures were 67 degrees in Atlanta, 58 degrees in Blairsville and 64 degrees in Griffin just before 12:40 p.m.
The warmer weather means the pollen count is on the upswing again.
Friday's count was 3,720 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air — the highest pollen count of the season so far. It beat Saturday's count of 2,890 particles. However, the new season high was still less than last year's season high of 6,152 on April 9.
