As the calendar prepares to close out winter, the weather in metro Atlanta and North Georgia will be turning warmer, according to Channel 2 Action News.

The morning rain Saturday should give way to a high of 71, further erasing the memories of that freezing weather of the past week.

“By mid- to late afternoon, the weather will be turning partly cloudy to mostly sunny across North Georgia,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

The expected low Saturday night is 41, with a high of 63 forecast for Sunday, according to Channel 2.

The trend should continue into next week.

“The next warm push moves in on Monday when we’ll be back in the low 70s, mid-70s ahead of our next cold front on Tuesday,” Monahan said.

The warming trend seems fitting, since Monday is officially the first day of spring.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., temps were at 68 in Atlanta, 63 in Griffin and 64 in Blairsville.
