It’s the first day of winter, but metro Atlanta temperatures are warmer than normal.

Temperatures were 54 degrees in Atlanta, 49 in Blairsville and 47 in Griffin just after 8:45 p.m.

The average high for this time of year is 53.

It will get even warmer this weekend for the holidays. According to the latest forecast, highs are expected to reach 57 degrees on Christmas Eve and 65 on Christmas Day.

There is a 30 percent chance of rain on Christmas Eve.
