Spotty overnight showers may produce early-morning fog Thursday.

And that trend will likely last through Sunday, according to Channel 2 Action News.

“But if you have outdoor plans, don’t cancel them,” meteorologist Karen Minton said. “Just know you may have to dodge a shower here or there in the afternoon and early evening.”

Rain, however, won’t be a lunchtime problem Wednesday in metro Atlanta.

That’s good news for students at 11 school districts (Atlanta Public and Marietta City schools included) who returned to campus for the first day of the academic year Wednesday.

There is a 20 percent chance of rain in north Atlanta, Carrollton, LaGrange and areas to the north of Gainesville, and there is a 30 percent chance of rain in south Atlanta, Griffin and spots to the south and east of Atlanta.

In areas that get rain, showers will start around 2 p.m. and be spotty through the late-evening hours.

Storms won't bring anything like the heavy rains, gusty winds and flooding that Tropical Storm Earl is threatening in Mexico, Belize and Honduras. That storm will likely become a hurricane later Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and scattered storms expected in Atlanta the rest of the week should be much milder. There is a 40 percent chance of rain Thursday and Friday and a 30 percent chance for the weekend, meteorologists said.

Highs will stay in the low 90s through Sunday.

Temps were 87 degrees in Atlanta, 80 in Blairsville and 76 in Griffin at 10:15 p.m.
