Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Katie Walls said most of the day Sunday is expected to stay sunny.

But a chance exists for strong storms across the metro area, with gusty wind, pockets of heavy rain and lightning, Walls said.

“Yesterday, much of the Metro experienced a passing shower or storm, Walls said. “This afternoon I’m not expecting storms to be as numerous; nonetheless, some could be strong.”

Walls said people should stay “weather aware,” but no one needs to cancel any outdoor plans.

Temperatures are expected to climb back into the 90s, up from Saturday’s high of 89 degrees.

Heat indices are expected to run in the mid to upper 90s across the metro area, Walls said.

Monday brings a 30 percent chance of rain, which decreases Tuesday through the end of the week.

A 20 percent chance of rain and highs in the mid 90s is expected Tuesday through Thursday in the five-day forecast.
