Metro Atlanta is bracing for an arctic cold front that’s expected to bring “the coldest air of the season.”

Snow flurries moved through parts of the north Georgia mountains early Sunday morning, lightly dusting lawns, roofs and porches from Blairsville to Bartow County. Metro Atlanta was mostly free of the white stuff, but it won’t avoid a bitingly cold —and windy — start to the work week.

“We’re gonna wake up to temperatures in the 20s [on Monday],” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Sunday is expected to be sunny and hit a high of 48 degrees, but a cold front will make its way into Georgia starting around 11 p.m. Monday and Tuesday’s highs are both forecast at just 39 degrees — with lows of 28 and 20, respectively.

No precipitation is in the forecast, but the wind is “really going to pick up,” Monahan said.
