Damaging wind, hail and frequent lightning may be on the way for metro Atlanta, but temperatures will still climb into the 80s Thursday.

“And today, we’ll see a mix of clouds and sun, and at times you could see an isolated shower. They’ll be few and far between as we go into the evening hours,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said. “But then as we get into late night tonight, some showers will start to move across the area, and we may run into them early tomorrow morning as well.”

The greater chance for isolated severe storms is later Thursday, when Atlanta faces a marginal risk of damaging wind, hail and frequent lightning.

Showers are expected about 5 a.m. Thursday in Athens, Blairsville, Calhoun, Gainesville and LaGrange, move through Atlanta about 6 a.m. and continue through the afternoon.

Storms could pop up in the afternoon or evening and bring with them the risk of damaging wind, hail and frequent lightning, Minton said.

Temperatures were 80 degrees in Atlanta, 77 degrees in Blairsville and 80 degrees in Griffin just after 6:00 p.m.

The 80-degree weather will continue through Saturday in Atlanta.
