Showers and thunderstorms are forecast each day this week, and some of the storms could be severe, particularly through Wednesday.

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton put the chance of rain and storms at 30 percent Monday, increasing to 40 percent Tuesday and Wednesday before dropping to 20 percent Thursday and Friday.

The National Weather Service said some of Monday’s storms could be severe, with damaging winds, frequent lightning, hail up to an inch in diameter and heavy rain.

The greatest risk of severe storms Monday is from Atlanta’s northern suburbs northward, mainly between noon and 10 p.m. Isolated severe storms are also possible south of that area into central Georgia.

The severe storm threat will increase on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Weather Service said.

Minton said temperatures will be hot all week, topping out in the low to mid-90s daily after morning lows in the mid-70s.
