The chance of rain has been scaled back for the weekend, but scattered thundershowers are still likely, forecasters said.

Look for a foggy morning commute, Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Karen Minton says, but rain will hold off until later in the day.

“Showers and some thunderstorms will begin to pop up by late afternoon,” Minton said.

Chances of rain will remain between 20 and 40 percent through the weekend.

“Not a total washout this weekend,” Minton said. “There’ll be plenty of time for some sunshine. But we’ll also see showers and thundershowers every afternoon.”

The high temperature for Friday is expected in the mid-80s.

The forecast offers a hint of relief for a region that has been saturated by rainfall and flooding, 95.5 FM WSB News/Talk Radio chief meteorologist Kirk Mellish said.

“It won’t be enough to significantly dry out if more flash flooding should come, but there will be some dry periods,” Mellish said.
