Each day will get cooler as the weekend draws nearer.

Down from a record-breaking high of 84 degrees, temperatures were still in the upper 70s Wednesday in metro Atlanta. But they are expected to drop to the upper 60s Thursday and decrease to the upper 50s by Sunday.

The pollen count was 670 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air Wednesday — nowhere near last year's season high of 6,152 on April 9 but still an indication of warm weather.

Temps were 65 degrees in Atlanta, 55 degrees in Blairsville and 66 degrees in Griffin at 6:30 p.m.

They will continue to decrease as a cold front hits the area.

“There’s just not a lot of moisture with it,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.

There were a few showers in areas north of Atlanta but no signs of rain in the metro area.

For the most part, “we’re just looking at some clear skies,” Minton said.

And wind will pick up throughout the day, with wind speeds up to 20 mph at some points.

Showers expected to wash through Atlanta Friday night will continue to bring temperatures down.

Showers will again develop Saturday and Sunday.
