Temperatures in metro Atlanta will keep climbing as the weekend approaches, but we’re in for a chilly start Friday, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

“Overnight and into tomorrow morning, it’s going to be cold, down into the 30s, most areas with a clear sky,” Nitz said Thursday.

Despite sunshine on Friday, northwest winds moving in between 15 and 20 mph will peak around midday.

They will slow down to about 10 or 15 mph by 4 p.m., Nitz said.

As for the rest of the day Thursday, clouds will gradually break up and clear out by 9 p.m., and there’s a slight chance of showers well southeast of metro Atlanta, Nitz said.

Temperatures were 50 degrees in Atlanta, 43 degrees in Blairsville and 46 degrees in Griffin just after 1:30 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to climb to the lower 50s and keep climbing as the weekend nears.

“The weekend looks fantastic,” Nitz said. “Chilly mornings, but highs in the low- to mid-60s”.

A slight chance of rain will return Monday, with better chances for showers Tuesday and Wednesday, Nitz said.
