Just before 3 p.m. Tuesday the temperature jumped to 86 degrees, tying to record high for this time of year, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

That record was set in 1984.

And temperatures are expected to reach a record-breaking 88 degrees Wednesday, according to the latest forecast.

The current record of 87 degrees was set in 1938, Channel 2 reported.

Temps were 83 degrees in Atlanta, 79 in Blairsville and 84 in Griffin just before 5:30 p.m.

Don’t worry. It won’t feel like summer forever.

Metro Atlanta should be out of record-breaking territory by Friday, when there is a 30 percent rain chance.

The expected high that day is 72 degrees.
