After breaking a 78-year-old record high Wednesday, Atlanta set a new record Thursday.
Temperatures were 87 degrees at 2:35 p.m., shattering the previous record of 85 degrees set in 1943, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Come Friday morning, temperatures are expected to take a drastic dip.
“The cold front — a big cold front — is headed our direction,” meteorologist Katie Walls said. “It’s going to be driving in temperatures in the 40s.”
Along with cooler temps, expect rain, too.
Isolated showers in metro Atlanta can’t be ruled out Friday, when there is a 30 percent chance of rain, Walls said.
“But a good soaking rainfall just (isn’t) in the cards,” Walls said. “It looks like any rainfall that we do receive will likely only accumulate to a tenth or less, and severe weather is not in the picture.”
Wind will pick up Friday afternoon, and wind gusts could get up to 35 mph, Walls said.
