After breaking a 78-year-old record high Wednesday, Atlanta set a new record at 87 degrees Thursday, shattering the previous record of 85 degrees set in 1943, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Temperatures were 75 degrees in Atlanta, 66 degrees in Griffin and 65 degrees in Blairsville at 10 p.m.
Come Friday morning, temperatures are expected to take a drastic dip.
“The cold front — a big cold front — is headed our direction,” meteorologist Katie Walls said. “It’s going to be driving in temperatures in the 40s.”
Isolated showers in metro Atlanta can’t be ruled out Friday, when there is a 30 percent chance of rain, Walls said.
“But a good soaking rainfall just (isn’t) in the cards,” Walls said. “It looks like any rainfall that we do receive will likely only accumulate to a tenth or less, and severe weather is not in the picture.”
Wind will pick up Friday afternoon, and wind gusts could get up to 35 mph, Walls said.
