The work week started overcast and chilly, with temperatures below freezing across most of metro Atlanta, but afternoon readings will be in the 60s much of the week.

Lows Monday morning ranged from 28 in Alpharetta and 29 in Dunwoody and Chamblee to 33 at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said highs Monday should be in the mid-50s, followed by highs in the low 60s Tuesday through Friday.

Overnight lows the rest of the week should hold in the 40s, Nitz said.

He said there’s a 20 percent chance of rain Tuesday, and a 30 percent chance of rain Thursday and Friday

On Saturday into Sunday, a wintry mix of snow and rain hit several counties, including Habersham, Lumpkin, Rabun, Towns, Union and White. Nitz reported a half a foot of snow in higher elevations in Rabun County.

Besides a few flurries near north Georgia on Sunday, temperatures rose above freezing in the mountains headed toward the afternoon. Temps reached 54 degrees in metro Atlanta. “That’s right where we should be this time of year,” said Nitz. “It’s the climatological average high for this first week of February.”
