Whether art festivals are synonymous with spring or you prefer a little something different, activities abound across Atlanta in May. From touring historic homes and lush gardens to sampling local eats and brews to always popular arts and crafts fairs, your calendar will quickly fill up with fun things to do.

The Dunwoody Art Festival will bring vendors and more than 130 artisans, rain or shine, to an area of metro Atlanta already renowned for its shopping opportunities.

Attend an art festival

Dunwoody Art Festival

One option for a special Mother’s Day weekend, the Dunwoody Art Festival provides a vibrant way to celebrate. With over 130 arts and crafts vendors from around the country, you can check out paintings, folk art, glasswork, photography, ceramics and more. Stop by the Food Court along your route for great eats and drinks. There’s also a Kids Zone with face painting and special crafts. Free parking with a complimentary shuttle is located at Dunwoody City Hall, 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Road.

Alpharetta Arts Streetfest

Celebrate Memorial Day weekend with a whimsical artist market. Alpharetta Arts Streetfest, brings together over 100 artisans with street performers, food vendors, children’s activities and more. Circling the green space in the Grove, this crafty event features handmade goods to fit any decor style. With a Food Court full of festival cuisine and a Kidz Zone with sand art, giant bubbles and the ability to mine for treasures, there’s something for everyone. Free parking is located within walking distance of the park at Amana Academy, 285 S. Main Street in Alpharetta.

The five-bedroom, four-bath home is on Kirkwood’s 17th Annual Tour of Homes on May 18-19. Keystone Concrete Foundations refinished the flooring to echo the look of the stone walkway and Jumpin’ John’s Home Repair painted the porch ceiling a traditional Southern blue. Tour some homes and gardens

Garden Tour

9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, May 10. $15 general admission. Children under 17 are free. Gardens are visited at your leisure in any order using the map to get to each location around Marietta. cobbmastergardeners.com/calendar/garden-tour

Four gardens are on display at the Garden Tour hosted by the Master Gardener Volunteers of Cobb County. Situated around Marietta and West Cobb. You will see gardens that demonstrate they’re the place for people of any age to grow and learn. From an urban oasis to prized perennials, a certified habitat for wildlife to an enchanting space ideal for children, each stop on this garden tour allows you to connect with nature, learn about local plant life and take part in a family-friendly activity.

Kirkwood Spring Fling Festival & Tour of Homes

Packed with a full day of activities, the Kirkwood Spring Fling Festival & Tour of Homes gets the day started with a 5K road race along a fun course through the neighborhood. Next, tour local historic Kirkwood homes, creative renovations and new constructions. Indoor and outdoor spaces are on display. You can also compete for bragging rights in the Wing Fling, walk through the artist market, sample delicious food truck eats and hang in the kids area, complete with bounce houses.

More than 50 restaurants will serve small bites at this year's Taste of Alpharetta festival.

Try some local food and drinks

Taste of Alpharetta

5 p.m. - 10 p.m. Thursday, May 8. Free admission, with food tickets available for purchase. $15 for Kidz Zone wristband. Downtown Alpharetta, 20 S, Main Street, Alpharetta. tasteofalpharettaga.com

Celebrate good eats at the Taste of Alpharetta. This annual food festival features dishes from over 60 local restaurants. Sample delicious bites from the tasting tents and enjoy some exciting culinary collaborations. Everything from appetizers to entrees to desserts will be available to enjoy. You can also check out cooking demonstrations, listen to live music and play on the Kidz Zone’s inflatables and challenge course. There’s also an educational play space called Locally Grown, focused on helping people make a deeper connection to the food they eat. This is a cashless event so you must purchase tickets to enjoy the food. Most chef offerings cost between $2-$8.

Suds on the Parkway

6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, May 16 is a VIP-only food and tasting event. 1 p.m. - 5 p.m Saturday, May 17 is for general admission. VIP tickets include Friday’s event and general admission on Saturday for $95. General admission tickets are for Saturday only and are $45. Featuring over 200 craft beers and wines from local and national vendors, Suds on the Parkway gives you unlimited drink tastings from its varied selection. Food is also available from area restaurants. Live music from local artists will keep the party going. General admission tickets give you access to the event on Saturday only. VIP tickets give you access Saturday along with an exclusive food and tasting event Friday night at ENZO Steakhouse. You’ll also get access to a VIP tent on Saturday, and admission to the event an hour early.
