If you ever worried that cellphones and other electronics we carry with us every day might spell the end of the humble wristwatch, I’ve got good news. They’re making a comeback.

An emerging category called “smartwatches” that can do much more than tell time may be the next hot tech product. Smartwatches are becoming available in a variety of categories, but they typically have in common the ability to access the Internet or to communicate wirelessly with devices like smartphones to sync information. Some smartwatches from companies such as Sony and Motorola can do things like display text messages, keep track of your fitness activity with GPS enabled, play music or even access Twitter. They cost about $100-$250.

The smartwatch market could heat up quickly. Apple and Samsung are rumored to be working on their own smartwatch models.
