TechCrunch reported that messaging app Snapchat has raised $1.8 billion in a Series F round. The tech site also reports that Snapchat, which just recently launched its monetization efforts, brought in just $59 million in revenue last year. Most of the $1.8 billion raised was within the last five months. Investors include T. Rowe Price, Sequia Capital, General Atlantic and Fidelity among others.

In the ongoing saga of Peter Thiel vs. Gawker, the CEO  of Gawker has issued a warning and a public challenge to venture capitalist Peter Thiel, who is funding a number of lawsuits against Gawker. Denton  proposed a public discussion on the merits of what Thiel is doing. (Also the Wall Street Journal has an interesting story covering the Silicon Valley reactions to Thiel's lawsuits.)

A federal jury has sided with Google in a two-week trial over whether the Android operating system  infringes upon Oracle's copyrights. The jurors were asked if Google's use of Java APIs was "fair use" under copy right law. The jurors unanimously voted yes, according to Ars Technica.
