We like to think of a new year as a tabula rasa, or blank slate. It’s the time to start afresh and attack goals with renewed fervor. (“I will write that novel!” “I will find a new job!” “I will get my finances in order!” etc.) Actually following through on those resolutions? That’s much easier if you’re organized, which is why we prefer a workspace that is something of a blank slate, too.

Heckler Design — a Phoenix, Ariz.-based company that specializes in simple, sleek organizational tools for the office — makes a product called Cliff that takes you one step closer to a clean and uncluttered desk. An elevated computer display made of powder-coated steel, Cliff raises your monitor to a more ergonomic position (so no more perching it on a random pile of books). Plus, it aligns well with a laptop so users can work off two screens, if necessary.

Cliff has two sliding drawers, enabling you to stow away assorted office supplies when you’re not using them, and various openings that are designed to conceal those unsightly cords and power cables. The product currently comes in black, white red or sea foam and is available for $75 at hecklerdesign.com. Whether or not you sit down at your newly organized desk to get to work on that novel? That’s up to you.
