HomeAway certainly knows how to get the media's attention.
After the success of its short-term rental inside the HomeAway headquarters during SXSW, the Austin-based vacation rental site said Thursday it is building the first-ever temporary apartment inside the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
This news was covered internationally, appearing in French-language publications such as Le Parisien, American newspapers such as USA Today and tech sites like Mashable.
Four contest winners, along with up to five additional guests each, will be able to sleep on the first level of the Eiffel Tower. The overnight stays will take place during the UEFA Euro 2016 football tournament.
Announced on Thursday, the overnight stays will take place on June 23, June 28, July 4 and July 8. Guests also will be served a "gourmet dinner created especially for them," according to a HomeAway news release.
Contest winners will be announced on June 10.
The temporary apartment will be designed by French interior designer Benoit Leleu,, and HomeAway promises it will be "family-friendly."
The 2,000-square-foot apartment will have two bedrooms and one bathroom, a spokeswoman for HomeAway said.
Technically there is already a small apartment on the third level of the Eiffel Tower but this is the first one built for tourists.
HomeAway did a similar temporary apartment in Austin during SXSW 2016. HomeAway is headquartered in Austin and was bought by Expedia in late 2015 for $3.9 billion.
