Will it be Kenwyne Jones? Will it be Hector Villalba? Will it be Andrew Carleton?
Which Atlanta United player will have the top-selling jersey for the MLS expansion club? And will there be enough sold to be included among the league’s best-sellers?
The club will unveil its inaugural home jersey on Tuesday at The Tabernacle . The jersey can be purchased on site after the unveiling, at the club's store in Atlantic Station, or online at www.atlutd.com. The retail price hasn't been revealed.
Most of the league’s top-selling jerseys through the first half of the MLS season have something in common: they feature Designated Players.
In information released by the league that is based upon the total number of jerseys sold, New York City FC’s Andrea Pirlo had the No. 1 most purchased jersey. Pirlo was followed by Seattle’s Clint Dempsey, NYCFC’s David Villa and Seattle’s Jordan Morris, who is the only one of the four who isn’t a Designated Player.
The rest of the top 10 are: L.A.’s Steven Gerrard, Orlando City’s Kaka, Montreal’s Didier Drogba, Toronto’s Sebastian Giovinco, NYCFC’s Frank Lampard and Sporting KC’s Dom Dwyer, who isn’t a Designated Player.
Villalba, an Argentinian, is the only Designated Player that has been announced as signing with Atlanta United.
MLS doesn’t release team sales and rankings, and doesn’t release revenue totals.
