A few things said by Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino and the team’s players this week that didn’t make it into stories:
GERARDO MARTINO
On the uniqueness of last year’s game at Minnesota:
“I don’t know if we can take anything away from either of the games against Minnesota. The one there because of the conditions and because we are a new team. The one here because we had so many guys missing for different reasons.
“It’s hard to take anything away other than individual performances.”
-
On Zlatan Ibrahimovic joining L.A. Galaxy:
“Ooh. He’s a huge figure. I think it’s good for the league. He’s going to bring a lot to the league. I’m not sure if he’s going to play in the Clasico this weekend. I saw he’s available but he’s an immense figure for the league.”
-
On the search for Carlos Carmona’s replacement:
“No news. I’m not hiding anything. It’s true there’s no news.”
-
BRAD GUZAN
Staying warm on Saturday?
“Adrenaline’s pumping. You are in the midst of the game, the heat of the moment, if you will.
“For me, it’s never been an issue. I’ve played in cold temperatures, wet temperatures, snow. You just get on with it.”
-
On watching the U.S. against Paraguay:
“Games like that are only going to help guys get better. The last 30 minutes or so things got a bit scrappy. Overall, it’s a good win. I think they will take confidence ahead of that moving forward, helping them progress whether it be with their club teams, whether it be trying to make an impact there or ultimately with the national team.”
-
The coldest game he’s ever played:
“Probably the infamous Snow Clasico in Denver. That was a bit snowy that night.”
-
LEANDRO GONZALEZ PIREZ
On last year’s game against Minnesota United:
“That game was one of the best games last season for us. We scored six goals and played really well. We will try to do the same this game because with the snow, the cold, it’s all the same.”
-
On Minnesota United:
“This year they are good on defense. They are a strong team. We have to be focused. We have to be strong because if not we will have problems. We have to pay attention. We try to manage the game with the ball. It will be difficult with the snow, if it’s snowing.”
