The wife of New England Patriots receiver Wes Welker is apologizing for comments she posted on Facebook about Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis.

“Proud of my husband and the Pats,” Anna Welker wrote after the Ravens beat the Patriots in the AFC Championship game Sunday. “By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!”

She later issued an apology and said the remarks were written in the heat of the moment after the game.

“I’m deeply sorry for my recent post on Facebook. I let the competitiveness of the game and the comments people were making about a team I dearly love get the best of me. My actions were emotional and irrational and I sincerely apologize to Ray Lewis and anyone affected by my comment after yesterday’s game.

“It is such an accomplishment for any team to make it to the NFL playoffs, and the momentary frustration I felt should not overshadow the accomplishments of both of these amazing teams.”

Her comments about Lewis were at least close to the truth, if not totally accurate.

Lewis was charged with murder in Atlanta after the 2000 Super Bowl when two men were stabbed to death in Buckhead. The murder charge was later dropped, and Lewis pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor obstruction charge. He then testified against two co-defendants, who were acquitted of the murder charges.

It has also been widely reported that Lewis has six children by four different women — although he was never married to any of them.

However, Lewis is also known for his charitable work.

He is founder of the Ray Lewis 52 Foundation, which aims to “provide personal and economic assistance to disadvantaged youth,” according to the foundation’s website.
