Washington High School forfeited its Friday night region football matchup with Carver High School for disciplinary reasons, according to Atlanta Public Schools.

The two Atlanta schools were scheduled to play at Lakewood Stadium. But an incident Thursday involving Washington players forced the school to take disciplinary action, which included forfeiting the game, Kimberly Willis Green, school district spokeswoman, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Details regarding the incident were not released. But Atlanta police are investigating a fight between high school students and at least one parent Thursday night on the Washington campus.

Thursday night, officers were called to Washington during a fight involving football players and members of a Legacy baseball team, according to Sgt. Greg Lyon with Atlanta police. The fight had ended when police arrived and some of those involved had left the area, Lyon said Friday night.

Five members of the baseball team and one parent complained of minor injuries and were treated at the scene, according to police. The fight remains under investigation.

GHSA football coordinator Tommy Whittle confirmed that his office had been notified of the forfeit Friday morning, but said he was given no details on the reasons for the forfeit.

Carver Coach Darren Myles said he was told Friday morning his Panthers wouldn’t be playing.

“This is the first time I’ve ever experienced it,” Myles told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “You always want to win the game on the field.”

With the win, Carver improves to 6-2 overall, 4-0 in the subregion, while Washington drops to 6-2, 2-2. Carver will face Grady High School next Friday for the Region 6-AAAA, subregion B championship.
