In a video posted by NBA Cares, Atlanta Hawks rookie John Collins spoke of the respect he has for servicemen and women because he grew up with his father in the Navy and his mother in the Air Force.

Celebrating the NBA’s Hoops for Troops week, Collins can be seen shaking hands with servicemen and women and spending time with their children.

“It takes a certain amount of sacrifice,” Collins said. “I think that’s the big word I can use when it comes to serving your country or turn that over into anything in our communities. And honestly, it starts with each and every one of (us). We are one community and that's one of the most important lessons we can all learn.”
