In 1943, the world was in the midst of World War II, the Great Depression had ended in the United States, the average cost of a gallon of gas was 15 cents and Georgia made it’s first appearance in the Rose Bowl when they faced UCLA.

The Bulldogs will make their second-ever appearance— their first in 75 years— on Jan. 1, 2018, when they face the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

In anticipation of the New Year's Day game, the University of Georgia released a video of what the Bulldogs looked like last time they reached the Rose Bowl (above).

The Rose Bowl, the "granddaddy of them all." The nation's oldest bowl game was first played on Jan. 1, 1902. The game was started as the centerpiece to the "Tournament of Roses" parade in Pasadena, Calif. It became an annual contest in 1916, while the Rose Bowl stadium opened in 1922.
