Top games to watch in world soccer this week:
Monday
3 p.m., Chelsea vs. West Ham, USA Network, NBC Sports Live: The Hammers were one of the surprise teams last year, coming close to securing a spot in the Champions League. Chelsea were the biggest disappointments and cleaned house in the offseason in an attempt to make it back to the top of the table.
Tuesday
Noon and 3 p.m, Olympic soccer women's semifinals, NBCSN: Brazil will take on Sweden in the first game, and Canada will meet Germany in the second.
2:45 p.m., Steaua Bucharest vs. Manchester City, Fox Sports 1: Champions League qualification continues with Pep Guardioloa's Citizens taking on the Romanian big boys (a relative term).
8 p.m., Central vs. Sporting KC, fuboTV, Univision Deportes: Atlanta United's Kenwyne Jones should make his debut against Sporting KC in this CONCACAF Champions League match in Trinidad.
Wednesday
Noon and 3 p.m., Olympic soccer men's semifinals, NBCSN and NBC Sports Live: Brazil will take on Honduras in the first game, and Nigeria (part-time Atlanta residents) will take on Germany for the right to appear in the finals.
5 p.m., Barcelona vs. Sevilla, ESPN Deportes: Barcelona, impressive in the preseason, will play its second meaningful game this season. It won the first leg of the Supercopa de Espana 2-0.
8 p.m., Minnesota United vs. Tampa Bay, fuboTV: A chance to see Atlanta United's Junior Burgos, if he plays for the Rowdies. He is finding minutes hard to come by.
Friday
Noon and 4:30 p.m., Olympic women's soccer, NBC Sports Live: The Bronze and Gold medal games are scheduled.
3 p.m., Manchester United vs. Southampton, USA: Jose Mourinho's Red Devils were impressive in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth in Week 1.
Saturday
10 a.m., Burnley vs. Liverpool, NBC Sports Live: The Reds, darkhorses to win the Premier League, shows their plusses (going forward) and minuses (left back) in a 4-3 win over Arsenal.
Noon and 4:30 p.m., Olympic men's soccer, NBC Sports Live: The Bronze and Gold medal games are scheduled.
12:30 p.m., Leicester City vs. Arsenal, NBC Sports Live: The Foxes and Gunners stumbled in their first fixtures and, in all reality, can't afford to lose another game so soon or they will be out of the title chase before it has even started.
2:45 p.m., Juventus vs. Fiorentina, beIN Sports USA: Juventus, the reigning Italian champs, will open their campaign with plenty of new faces. Gone is Paul Pogba. In is Gonzalo Higuain.
3 p.m., NYCFC vs. L.A. Galaxy, ESPN: NYCFC is atop the Eastern Conference, just two points ahead of the Red Bulls. The Galaxy are in third in the Western Conference, seven points behind Dallas.
7:30 p.m., Tampa Bay vs. Edmonton, NASL Live: Another opportunity to see Burgos.
10 p.m., Necaxa vs. Tijuana, Galavision: A chance to watch Atlanta United's Hector Villlalba, who is on loan with Tijuana.
Sunday
2:15 p.m., Real Sociedad vs. Real Madrid, beIN Sports USA: The Spanish giants, uncharacteristically quiet in the transfer window, get their La Liga season underway.
9:30 p.m., Seattle vs. Portland, Fox Sports 1: Two of the more disappointing teams in MLS will play the next chapter in their rivalry. Seattle has just 24 points from 22 games before Sunday's games. They trail the Timbers by eight points for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
