Minnesota Twins minor league outfielder and top prospect Byron Buxton, a former No. 1 draft pick from Appling County High School in Baxley, was taken off the field in an ambulance Wednesday following a collision with a teammate while both chased a fly ball for the Double-A New Britain Rock Cats in their home game in Connecticut.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan was at the game and said Buxton was unconscious for 10 minutes and suffered a concussion but was alert later at a hospital. MLB.com reported that Buxton has no broken bones or additional injuries.

Buxton and right fielder Mike Kvasnicka were down for an extended period of time. Kvasnicka caught the ball, but after the collision David Adams of the Bowie Baysox tagged up from first and circled the bases for a run.

Trainers and paramedics rushed onto the field to attend to the two outfielders. Kvasnicka walked away but had a sore hip.

This was the first game for Buxton for New Britain. He had played just 30 games this season in the Florida State League for Fort Myers due to a wrist injury.

Buxton struck out three times and threw out a runner at third base Wednesday.
