Former Georgia Tech safety Jemea Thomas received an invitation to participate in the NFL draft combine Feb. 22-25.

Thomas posted the news on his Facebook page Thursday. The invitation, along with his invitation to the East-West Shrine Game, is a favorable indicator of his candidacy for the upcoming draft. The NFL typically invites about 335 draft-eligible players to the Indianapolis event. Given his size – 5-foot-10, 195 pounds, a little shorter and lighter than the preferred size for a safety – Thomas is someone who would benefit from performing well in tests like the 40-yard dash and bench press in front of an audience that will include general managers, scouts and coaches from all 32 NFL teams.

The shrine game will be held Jan. 18 in St. Petersburg. According to the game’s website, more than 100 players who participated in last year’s game signed NFL contracts (either as draftees or undrafted rookie free agents).
