Eight years ago on Aug. 16, 2009, Jamacian track star Usain Bolt broke the world record in the 100 meters at the World Athletic Championships in Berlin.

Bolt ran the 100 meters in 9.58 seconds, breaking his own world record of 9.69 seconds he set a year earlier at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Tyson Gay of the United States and Asfa Powell of Jamacia finished second and third respectively in the men’s 100 meters. Gay set the United States record in the race with a time of 9.71 seconds.
