A quick review of sports news and events today that people are talking about.

1. BAD EXPECTATIONS

The AJC's Braves beat writers will report today as soon as possible on left-handed reliever Eric O'Flaherty's visit with orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. O'Flaherty said Sunday he's expecting bad news after an MRI showed a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament of his left elbow. He's holding out hope, but it's a good bet he'll have season-ending surgery. Come back to ajc.com this afternoon for confirmation.

2. RAIN’S GONE, VICTORIES ARE BACK

After a sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Braves welcome the Minnesota Twins to Turner Field tonight for the first of a three-game series. It will be the first visit of the Twins to Turner Field since 2011. The Braves remain in first place in the NL East ahead of the Washington Nationals. The Nats continue their West Coast trip tonight in San Francisco.

3. TOUGH TENNIS TASK TODAY

The UGA men’s tennis team will meet Virginia in the NCAA championship semifinals at 2 p.m. today in Urbana, Ill., on the campus of the University of Illinois. UVA is 28-0 and has reached the tennis “Final Four” for four consecutive years, but historically UGA has handled the Cavaliers, winning in both 2007 and 2008 en route to national titles.

4. BOGO WITH GWINNETT BRAVES

The Gwinnett Braves will make up Sunday’s rainout with a doubleheader at Coolray Field today, beginning at 5:05 p.m. against the Louisville Bats. If you want to see a Braves star of the future, get there for the first game when left-hander Sean Gilmartin (2-2, 3.10 ERA) starts for Gwinnett.

5. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

AJC columnist Jeff Schultz has a good interview with B.J. Upton, who knows he is yet to live up to expectations as a big-ticket free-agent signee with the Braves. But he has his head up: "Man, I've been booed before. I've been booed way worse than I'm being booed right now, and I'm sure it won't be the last time I'll be booed." See the column on MyAJC.COM.
