Gwinnett (Triple-A)
Looking back: The G-Braves (second place, IL South) had a seven-game win streak snapped with an 11-1 loss at Columbus on Tuesday.
Looking ahead: Gwinnett is in the middle of a four-game series at Toledo. They open an eight-game homestand Thursday night against Lehigh Valley.
Notes: The G-Braves rank in International League top five in hitting, homers and runs runs scored. Gwinnett is seeking its first winning month since April 2012. The team trailed in seven of its first 12 wins.
Who's hot: INF Phil Gosselin, who opened the year a career .257 hitter, batted .375 through the first 18 games. Closer Juan Jaime converted his first five save opportunities and did not allow a run in his first eight innings.
Who's Not: C Christian Bethancourt hit .191 in his first 47 at-bats with one extra-base hit. RHP Luis Vasquez accumulated a 9.72 ERA in his first eight appearances while walking eight.
Jackson, Miss. (Double-A)
Looking back: During their 7-13 start, the M-Braves (last place, SL South) broke out with a season-high 12 hits to beat Montgomery on Tuesday night. They still hit just .233 through their first 20 games, sixth among 10 Southern League teams.
Looking ahead: Mississippi in the midst of a five-game series at Pensacola. The M-Braves open a four-game series with Jacksonville on Thursday.
Notes: The M-Braves were shut out on three consecutive nights (April 17-19), a first in the club's 10-year history. They were 2-4 in one-run games. Their eight home runs were second-fewest in the league.
Who's hot: RHP John Cornley struck out 12 batters in his first 12 appearances and leads the team with a 0.75 ERA.
Who's not: OF Robby Hefflinger, ranked the organization's top power hitter by Baseball America, was off to a .137 start with no homers in his first 51 at-bats.
Lynchburg, Va. (Single-A)
Looking back: The Hillcats lost two of three to Potomac last week and have dropped their past two series.
Looking ahead: The team is in the middle of a weekend series at Potomac, which leads the Carolina League Northern Division. They open a seven-game homestand Thursday against Salem.
Notes: During a recent 2-5 homestand, Lynchburg's pitching staff was hurt by the big inning, giving up three or more runs in an inning six times. The team's No. 3 and No. 4 hitters, Josh Elander and Kevin Ahrens, hit a combined .234 with 19 RBIs in the first 19 games.
Who's hot: OF Kyle Wren (Georgia Tech) recorded four multi-hit games in a five-game sequence and led the league with 13 steals.
Who's not: OF Will Skinner hit .203 with 17 strikeouts in his first 64 at-bats. The team ERA (4.37) ranked sixth in the eight-team league.
Rome (Single-A)
Looking back: The team entered a weekend series against Kannapolis having lost three of four. Rome lost seven of its first 10 home games.
Looking ahead: The R-Braves open a seven-game trip on Tuesday with the first of three games at Asheville.
Notes: Through their first 20 games, Rome was ranked 13th in hitting (.232), 13th in slugging (.318) and tied for eighth in runs (77) in the 14-team South Atlantic League. They won two of their first five series. RHP Francois Lafreniere, who gave up 16 runs in his past two starts, announced his retirement on Wednesday.
Who's hot: 1B Jacob Schrader's 14 RBIs were tied for fifth among league leaders. LF Victor Reyes (.309) was among the top hitters.
Who's not: C Bryan De La Rosa hit .147 in his first 10 starts with 16 strikeouts in his first 34 at-bats.
