Backup quarterback Kaleb Nobles threw three touchdown passes to Seantavius Jones as Valdosta State scored 35 second-half points to defeat host West Georgia 35-30 on Saturday.
Nobles (Fitzgerald) replaced starter Cayden Cochran at halftime to rally the 12th-ranked Blazers (5-1, 3-1 Gulf South Conference) from a 17-0 deficit by going 19-of-21 for 238 yards and four touchdowns.
Cochran left the game with an undisclosed injury, a Valdosta State official said in an email.
Jones (Tucker), who had 11 catches for 187 yards, caught a 5-yard touchdown pass to give Valdosta State a 21-17 lead with 13:32 left in the fourth quarter.
Nobles then hit Jones with a 13-yard score for a 28-17 advantage with 6:21 remaining.
West Georgia’s Dallas Dickey (Carrollton) rushed for 117 yards and threw for 230 yards and two touchdowns.
His 63-yard pass to Denarius Appling (Griffin) gave the Wolves (4-3, 1-2) a 17-0 lead with 11:34 left in the third quarter.
Valdosta State linebacker Chris Pope had 16 tackles.
Benedict 24, Clark Atlanta 0: Brandon Thompson rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns to lead host Benedict.
Clark (2-5, 1-4), which entered leading the SIAC with 271.6 rushing yards per game, was held to 89 yards on the ground.
The Tigers (3-4, 3-3) scored 21 third-quarter points, including both of Thompson’s touchdown runs.
Clark was 1-of-11 on third-down conversions and 1-of-4 on fourth down.
Bethune-Cookman 48, Savannah State 21: Cary White rushed for three touchdowns on seven carries to lead the host Wildcats.
White finished with 69 yards rushing to lead Bethune-Cookman (6-1, 3-0 MEAC), which had 465 yards of offense.
Antonio Bostick threw for 202 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdown passes, but the Tigers (1-7, 0-4) committed five turnovers.
Florida Tech 28, Shorter 24: Bobby Vega threw three touchdown passes, and the host Panthers (2-5, 1-3 GSC) rallied with 21 fourth-quarter points.
Shorter (0-7, 0-4) held a 24-7 lead behind the rushing of Bradley Moon (Salem), who had 130 yards, and Eric Dodson (Thomas County Central), who finished with 57 yards and three scores.
Mercer 54, Carnegie Mellon 21: Payton Usher rushed for 115 yards, and John Russ accounted for three touchdowns to lead the host Bears.
Usher (Northgate) averaged 16.4 yards on seven carries, and Russ (Mill Creek) threw two scoring passes and scored on a 5-yard run as Mercer (6-1, 2-1 Pioneer Football League) improved to 6-0 at home.
The Bears rushed for 391 of their 546 yards of offense.
