South Forsyth ran the ball 40 consecutive times during a momentum-changing stretch that led the War Eagles to a 31-24 win at Chattahoochee on Friday.
Tyler LaFlamme and Brett Larkin each rushed for two scores. LaFlamme’s 1-yard plunge with 2:50 to play sealed the War Eagles’ first win over Chattahoochee since 2005. South Forsyth rushed for 327 yards.
Isaiah Williams led South Forsyth with 130 rushing yards, and LaFlamme finished with 124 behind an offensive line composed of Griffin Landrum, Caleb Lummus, Kyle Watford, Ross Schaber and Davis Winkle.
“Our offensive line was incredible, and so were our running backs,” said South Forsyth coach Jeff Arnette, whose War Eagles improved to 5-1 and 1-1 in Region 6-AAAAAA.
“We’ve been down in four of our five wins and been able to come back, which is just a great testament to our kids and our staff. It’s fun to see them have some success and fun to see us go home for three straight games. I can’t say enough about what a great win this was.”
Chattahoochee (3-2, 1-2 6-AAAAAA) jumped out to a 10-0 lead on a 26-yard Taz Wilson touchdown pass to Collin Lisa and an Adam Abdellaoui field goal. Adam Perlberg recovered a fumble at the South Forsyth 39 to set up the first score.
After a South Forsyth score, Wilson connected with Avery Ward on a 73-yard touchdown strike to put the Cougars up 17-7 with five minutes to go before halftime. Chattahoochee wouldn’t score again until late in the fourth quarter.
With Chattahoochee up 10-0, South Forsyth mounted its first scoring drive, capped by Larkin’s 1-yard touchdown run with five minutes to play. Williams’ 40-yard burst up the middle highlighted the scoring drive for the War Eagles.
The War Eagles ran on 10 consecutive plays on their next drive, with LaFlamme plowing in from 1 yard out to cut the Cougars’ lead to 17-14 at the half.
Arnette opened the second half with 30 consecutive runs, helping South Forsyth possess the ball for all but five minutes of the last two quarters.
