Atlanta United’s Almiron named MLS Player of the Week

Miguel Almiron was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week after the Atlanta United midfielder scored two goals in a 4-1 win over Montreal Impact Saturday.

Almiron is tied for the league lead in goals, with teammate Josef Martinez, with six. He is also tied for fourth in assists (four). He leads MLS in shots with 47 through eight games for Atlanta United (6-1-1).

Against Montreal, Almiron tied the game at 1-1 with a penalty kick in the 70th minute. He also scored in the 84th minute for Atlanta United’s third goal.

Almiron was the Player of the Week twice last season.

Atlanta United puts its seven-game unbeaten streak on the line at Chicago Fire on Saturday, the first of three games in nine days.
