In his quest to become 100 percent healthy from a high right ankle sprain, Falcons wide receiver Roddy White suffered a setback after playing extensively against New England.
He played 74 of 76 (97.4 percent) of the offensive snaps against the Patriots, his highest total of the season.
“Yeah, and I learned a very valuable lesson from that,” White said. “I ain’t where I need to be yet.”
Asked if he was 100 percent, White said, “I don’t know. I’ll tell you after the bye week.”
White, who has posted six consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, has caught 10 passes for 84 yards and no touchdowns this season. He suffered the high ankle sprain against the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 15.
He was on the field for 37 of 56 (66.1 percent) snaps against New Orleans, 34 of 64 (53.1 percent) against the Rams and 47 of 71 (66.2 percent) against Miami.
“I’ve got to get it right,” White said. “The bye week is coming at a really, really good time. No vacation. No time off for Roddy. No cruising. No, none of that. I’ll be cruising right here in the training room.”
After the opener, White revealed that he had a high ankle sprain. He thought at the time he would be 100 percent recovered in two to three weeks.
After playing so much against New England, White doesn’t believe he’s reached 100 percent yet.
Gonzalez a G.O.A.T: With a catch against the Jets, Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez will join wide receiver Jerry Rice as the only players in NFL history to catch a pass in 200 consecutive games.
Rice, who played mostly for the San Francisco 49ers, caught a pass in 274 consecutive games.
“It’s something that I never thought would happen,” Gonzalez said. “I never even set out for it to happen. I’ve been very fortunate to stick around and be healthy to be able to do 200 games like that.
“I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch. Hopefully, I’ll get that catch. Joining a guy like Jerry Rice, he’s a G.O.A.T., Greatest of All Time, and that’s good company to be with.”
Hill returned to practice: The Jets could have to play without wide receivers Santonio Holmes (hamstring/foot) and Stephen Hill (concussion). Hill played at Miller Grove High and Georgia Tech.
Hill returned to practice Friday and was limited. Holmes did not pratice.
Also, rookie cornerback Dee Milliner (hamstring) and offensive lineman Oday Aboushi (knee) did not practice.
Big runs: Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan was not happy with the 49-yard run the Falcons gave up to New England's LeGarrette Blount. Miami's Lamar Smith also gashed the defense for a 49-yard run in Game 3 of the season.
“There are three hitters there so to speak,” Nolan said. “When you have a lot of hitters, that’s disappointing. Those are plays that shouldn’t be explosive plays.”
Injury report: Cornerback Asante Samuel (hamstring) and linebacker Paul Worrilow returned to practice and were limited participants, as were defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (foot) and wide receivers Julio Jones (knee) and Roddy White (ankle).
Linebacker Akeem Dent (sprained right foot), left tackle Sam Baker (knee) and running back Steven Jackson (hamstring) did not practice.
Wide receiver Drew Davis (ankle) fully participated.
