Falcons rookie Robert Alford will provide a weekly diary for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution this season.

The Hammond, La., native, who played at Southeastern Louisiana, intercepted Saints quarterback Drew Brees in his NFL debut. This week, he’s getting ready to face the Saints again and may receive more playing time down the stretch.

Here’s his latest installment, as told to D. Orlando Ledbetter.

I’m from Louisiana, and I followed the Saints my whole life. It’s going to be a special moment for me to face them again. This one will be at our house.

Once I first stepped front in here, I already knew about the rivalry. The Saints passed on me (in the draft). So, I mean I’m against them now. I was going for them my whole life, but now I’m the enemy.

We need to get this turned around. I think it would be real big for us to come away with a win against the Saints, our biggest rival. That would start a good trend for us.

I know that we have been giving up a lot of yards, but all I can do is control what I can control. I felt that we are doing some things well. There are some things that we had some mistakes on. There are just some things that we have to correct in order to be a good team.

The first thing that you have to do is stay positive and go into the meetings and get some coaching. Then you can go to practice and work on the things that you’ve done wrong.
