Former Georgia men's basketball coach Tubby Smith told reporters on Wednesday that he is no longer head coach at the University of Memphis, according to a report from ESPN.

Smith leaves Memphis after a two-year stint as its head coach, where he compiled a record of 40-26. The news comes after weeks of speculation that Memphis was going to fire Smith and replace him with Memphis legend Penny Hardaway.

Smith, 66, has a career record of 597-302, while coaching at Texas Tech, Minnesota, Kentucky, Georgia and Tulsa. He led Bulldogs 1996 and 1997 NCAA Tournaments in his only two years in Athens.
