Free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been invited to the next meeting of the NFL owners and players, according to a report by Yahoo Sports Charles Robinson.

Kaeprnick was not invited to the first meeting between owners and a few players at NFL headquarters on Oct. 17.

Kaepernick, who the first player to begin kneeling in protest of police brutality and social injustice during the playing of the national anthem last season, was not invited to the first meeting which angered some of the invited players.

Kaepernick and his team released a statement at the time verifying the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was not invited and wished to be included.

“Colin Kaepernick was not invited to attend today’s meeting by any official from the NFL or any team executives,” the statement read. “Other players wanted him present and have asked that he attend the next meeting with the goal of forging a lasting and faithful consensus around these issues. Mr. Kaepernick is open to future participation on these important discussions.”

Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the 49ers in March.
